Our Roots Goaltending is in the veins

Tyrone_Garner

Garner’s Goalie Academy officially opened for business and became fully operationally in 2016. What started out as one goalie coach with 15 years of combined Major Junior and Professional hockey experience, two goalies and a small bag of pucks has grown immensely in the past three years. Garner’s Goalie Academy now consists of 5 experienced goalie coaches and has seen over 100 different goalies inspired by our coaches. At Garner’s Goalie Academy we believe in the power of positive thinking and also stress the importance of the mental aspect of the game through meditation and visualization.

Garner’s Goalie Academy is primarily based out of Centre Ice Training Facility located in Burlington, Ontario but is a separate organization.

Just like we have evolved here at Garner’s Goalie Academy with guarantee our goalies will also grow and evolve as goalies and humans.

About Ty

IMG_2680

Ty grew playing minor hockey AAA for both Stoney Creek and Hamilton and was further drafted to the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. While in Oshawa Ty won the OHL championship giving him the opportunity to play in the Memorial Cup.

Ty was later drafted to the New York Islanders of the NHL (83rd pick, 1996) and was subsequently traded to the Calgary Flames where he would see his first NHL action.

Ty also spent time with the Atlanta Thrashers and Florida Panthers organizations. Over his 11 year professional hockey career Ty also spent time in the AHL and ECHL where he won a Kelly Cup Championship (ECHL) and was named most valuable player of the playoffs.

Ty’s professional career also took him overseas where he had the opportunity to play in both the German and Norwegian elite leagues where he was named goalie of the year in Germany and won another championship in Norway.

Ty retired from the goalie position after he sustained an injury but still pursued his passion for hockey playing as a power forward for two years in the SPHL in Jacksonville Florida.

Since his retirement Ty was the goalie coach for the Stoney Creek Warriors AA major atom team and the Hamilton Jr Bulldogs AAA major peewee team.

In 2016 Ty signed on as the goalie coach for the entire Hamilton Jr Bulldogs minor hockey program where he is responsible for goalie development. Also that same year Garner’s Goalie Academy was placed into motion and became fully operational. Since then Garner’s Goalie Academy has grown immensely in both clientele and as a complete organization and strives to continue to evolve on a daily basis.

Ty has always believed in the power of positive thinking. He fully believes, the difference between those who move on to a higher level and those who do not is based on their mental approach. He doesn’t want to change the way goalies play the game, he wants to enhance the way they play the game both technically and mentally.

Ty is looking forward to sharing his past experiences and passing on his knowledge not only in the goalie position but for the entire game of hockey.
